Beloved in Toronto, where he spent parts of 13 seasons during his 15-year NHL career, Wendel Clark embodied intensity and passion every time he took the ice. In a late December 1989 matchup against the Boston Bruins, Clark delivered an unforgettable overtime game winner. Battling behind the Boston net, he emerged from a scrum of six players with the puck. As it drifted toward the blue line, Clark hustled to keep it in the zone, delivering a hit along the way. Charging to the net, he found a loose puck at the side and buried it, sending the Toronto crowd into a frenzy. Today, Clark’s No. 17 jersey hangs proudly in the Maple Leafs’ rafters.
