In each of Florida’s three losses, the Oilers had scored first. With Edmonton winning three games in a row to tie the series and force a Game 7, it became crucial for Florida to score the first goal to energize their crowd and build confidence. Carter Verhaeghe, known for scoring big goals, did just that early in the first period. Skating the puck behind the net, Verhaeghe passed it to Evan Rodrigues and positioned himself in front of the net. Rodrigues skated up the wall, turned, and fired the puck toward the net, where Verhaeghe redirected it in, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
