Save vs NJD | 1st Period | Jun 7, 2001

In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, teams sometimes need their goaltender to “steal” a game to stay alive. In Game 6 of the 2001 Stanley Cup Final, Patrick Roy delivered a masterclass on the road to force a decisive Game 7. Roy was spectacular, especially in the first period, turning aside multiple Grade-A chances to keep the game scoreless. His heroics gave Colorado the chance to find their stride, leading to a 4-0 victory and a clutch shutout for Roy. Two nights later in Game 7, Roy was once again brilliant. He stopped 25 of 26 shots, including a critical pad save early in the first period to preserve a one-goal lead — an advantage the Avalanche would never surrender. During the 2001 playoffs, Roy posted an exceptional 16-7 record, a .934 save percentage, a 1.70 goals-against average, and four shutouts. For his dominance and leadership, Roy earned his third Conn Smythe Trophy, more than any player in NHL history. The victory also marked his fourth and final Stanley Cup championship, capping off a legendary career that includes three Vezina Trophies and an indelible legacy as one of the greatest goaltenders of all time.
