In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference First Round, defenseman Mattias Samuelsson made his NHL playoff debut one to remember, delivering a clutch late-third-period goal that gave the Sabres their first lead of the night. Trailing 2-0, Buffalo stormed back with two quick Tage Thompson goals to tie the game. Then, late in the third, Samuelsson crept down into the slot, took a feed from Jack Quinn, and wired a wrist shot past the Bruins goaltender at 16:36 to put Buffalo ahead for good. That lead held up in a 4-3 victory — the Sabres’ first postseason win on home ice since April 20, 2011 — and helped propel Buffalo to their eventual 4-2 series triumph.
