Goal vs WSH | 2nd Period | Oct 5, 2006

Brendan Shanahan joined the New York Rangers for the 2006–07 season, bringing a powerful presence and scoring touch to a team with playoff aspirations. On opening night, Oct. 5, 2006, Shanahan made an immediate impact, scoring twice in a 5–2 win over the Washington Capitals. His first goal gave the Rangers a 3–1 lead and stood as the game-winner. His second goal, early in the third period during a delayed penalty, marked a major milestone—his 600th career goal—making him just the 15th player in NHL history to reach that mark. A three-time Stanley Cup champion and one of the preeminent power forwards of his era, Shanahan played over 1,500 NHL games and finished his career with 656 goals and 1,354 points. He spent two seasons in New York before returning to the New Jersey Devils, the team that originally drafted him, for the final year of his Hall of Fame career.
