Becoming just the third player in history to score 800 goals, Alex Ovechkin hits the mark in style by completing a hat trick for the milestone tally. The play begins with a forecheck by Anthony Mantha that causes a turnover. Mantha throws the puck out in front where the pass gets deflected and bounces into Evgeny Kuznetsov’s shin pad. With the puck bouncing around in front of the net, Mantha corrals it enough to get it over to Ovechkin who buries the milestone goal. On the road in Chicago, hats are thrown onto the ice from the stands as Washington Capitals teammates flood the ice to celebrate the achievement. Just 10 days later, Ovechkin would score goal #802 to surpass Gordie Howe (801) for second place all-time behind Wayne Gretzky (894).
