Wayne Gretzky had an incredible start to his NHL career, finishing his first season with at least a share of the League lead in both assists and points. Gretzky’s performance in 1979-80 earned him his first Hart Trophy as MVP of the regular season, beginning a streak of eight consecutive wins and the first of nine career wins. Gretzky scored his first career goal in his third NHL game, tying the game for Edmonton against Vancouver with just over a minute remaining in the third period during a power play, securing a point for the Oilers.
