After spending the first ten seasons of his career in Edmonton, Jari Kurri joined the Los Angeles Kings, where he achieved a historic milestone in his second season. Kurri scored his 500th career goal, becoming the first European-trained player in NHL history to reach the mark. The empty-net goal was met with celebration from teammates and fans alike. Kurri remains second all-time among Finnish-born NHL players in both goals (601) and points (1,398).
