Goal vs DET | Overtime | Jun 4, 2002

Ron Francis was one of the most consistent and productive players in NHL history. Across an incredible 23-season career, he amassed 1,798 points, ranking 5th all-time. Renowned for his elite playmaking and defensive skills, Francis recorded 1,249 assists—second only to Wayne Gretzky (1,963) in NHL history. A two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins (1991, 1992), he also earned the Selke Trophy (1994-95) and the Lady Byng Trophy three times (1994-95, 1997-98, 2001-02). Spending most his career with the Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins, Francis retired as one of the most accomplished and respected centers in the game. In his final postseason with Carolina, the team captain delivered a memorable moment, scoring the overtime winner in Game 1 of the 2002 Stanley Cup Final—his last playoff goal. His remarkable legacy was solidified with his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007.
