Goal vs BOS | Overtime | May 9, 1974

In what many regard as the biggest goal ever scored in Philadelphia Flyers history, captain Bobby Clarke netted the overtime winner in Game 2 of the 1974 Stanley Cup Final. Facing off against the favored Boston Bruins, Clarke, the heart and soul of the Flyers, became the hero by leveling the series on the road and infusing his team with momentum for the return home. The win was the Flyers’ first on Boston Garden ice since Nov. 12, 1967. The play unfolded as Dave Schultz initiated the sequence from the corner, delivering a pass to Bill Flett out front. With keen anticipation, Clarke made his way to the net, where Flett found him, sending him all alone on the netminder. Although his initial attempt fell short, Clarke capitalized on the rebound, sealing the win and igniting an immediate celebration. This iconic moment not only propelled the Flyers toward their inaugural Stanley Cup – becoming the first NHL expansion team to win a championship – but also solidified Clarke's legacy as a clutch performer within the annals of hockey greatness.
