Marian Hossa joined the Detroit Red Wings in July 2008, bringing his elite scoring ability to a team hungry for another Stanley Cup. On October 24, 2008, he put on a show against his former team, the Atlanta Thrashers, scoring two goals and adding an assist in a 5–3 win at Joe Louis Arena. His first goal was a thing of beauty—he slipped past a defender, beat the goalie around the post, and tucked the puck in to give Detroit a 2–1 lead. Hossa finished the season with 40 goals and 31 assists in 74 games, playing a key role in the Red Wings’ success. The next year, he signed with Chicago and went on to win three Stanley Cups.
