Save vs VAN | Overtime | Apr 15, 1989

Two-time Stanley Cup champion, Conn Smythe Trophy winner, and Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Mike Vernon enjoyed a remarkable career between the pipes. Playing for the Calgary Flames in overtime of Game 7 during the 1989 Smythe Division Semifinals, Vernon made a game-saving stop on a breakaway attempt by Vancouver Canucks' Stan Smyl, setting the stage for the Flames to clinch the series. Vernon turned aside 42 of 45 shots in the game and went on to backstop Calgary to their first Stanley Cup championship later that postseason.
