In his fifth NHL appearance, Ivan Miroshnichenko, the Capitals' first-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, netted his first career goal. Miroshnichenko was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma during his draft season in 2022 but completed treatment and returned to the ice later that year and broke into the NHL in 2023-24. As the puck traveled down the boards behind the goal line, Dylan Strome retrieved it and immediately located Miroshnichenko open in front of the net. With quick hands, Miroshnichenko maneuvered around the goalie and tucked the puck into the far side of the net.
