In the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs, facing their in-state rivals, the Los Angeles Kings, Sharks’ captain Joe Thornton scored the series-clinching goal in overtime. This dramatic goal was the only playoff overtime goal in Thornton’s storied career. During Game 6 in Los Angeles, Thornton carried the puck up the ice and advanced it into the corner. Following a scramble in front of the net, he spun around and managed to find the puck, slamming it home for the win. A former Hart Trophy and Art Ross Trophy winner, Thornton accumulated 1,539 points over his 24-season career in the NHL.
